Do You Have a Four Word Paraphrase to Describe Your Story?

Answering a question like this seems more like a creative exercise of working within barriers. My story is much bigger than a narrow analysis of a four word paraphrase and is deeply tied to strong heroes that have shaped my journey.

At the age of three, my Dad left and never returned. He failed to support his family financially. My mom may have felt rejected and isolated. That did not stop her. She fought to raise my brother, sister, and I with perseverance. At one point, she worked at the mines in Bartow doing manual labor to support us.

This is my hero. She is my story.

That’s the progression I talk about. Growing up in Bartow in a working class home. Working as a tradesman after my high school graduation. Mentorship. Spiritual awakening. Education. Family. Values. Community. Hope. Education for me is a pillar of hope. That’s what I represent and will bring my tangible educational experiences with a passion.

This progression or next step involves taking this gratitude of my Polk experiences and giving back to my community.

So, here’s to you Mom for teaching me to value hard work and resilience.

William is deeply tied to Polk County.
